Sushi Burrito
Sushi is getting rolled into a handheld experience as a burrito now. Sushi
lovers will find all the fixings — protein, vegetables, sauces, etc. — all in a
wrap.
Go handheld at Foodoko (inside Lake Nona Veterans Affairs Medical
Center, 13800 Veterans Way, Orlando), which wraps its sushi burritos
($8.49) in seaweed. Or, head to Sus Hi Eatstation (380 S. State Road 434, No.
1004, Altamonte Springs or 4498 N. Alafaya Trail, No. 324, Orlando), which
uses a flour tortilla (prices vary).

Summertime is traditionally the time for a cool drinks, ice cream, refreshing fruit and other light bites. I’d like to include one more dish to this list — poke.
Poke (POH kay) is a mixture of cubed raw fish marinated briefly in various sauces and paired with everything from edamame to diced mango. It can be served alone or with rice (picture a pulled-apart sushi roll).
The dish hails from Hawaii, but has crossed quite a few miles to settle in a number of Central Florida restaurants. Here are a few:

Foodoko: This eatery offers quick grab-and-go poke bowl options with premade bowls.
The Sunshine Poke Bowl contains tuna, salmon, avocado, cucumber, masago (the eggs of the capelin fish) sesame seeds, carrot, rice, spicy mayonnaise and eel sauce for a colorful, fresh dish. Poke bowls are $9.99.
Also on Foodoko’s menu are sushi burritos, sushi rolls, bowls featuring cooked ingredients and vegetarian options.
Foodoko is inside the Lake Nona Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 13800 Veterans Way in Orlando. Learn more at foodoko.net.

Sushi burritos have come to Orlando's Lake Nona district at the new Foodoko restaurant.
Yum Yum Asian Cafe founder Steve Kuo and chef Wei Hao Chen partnered for the sushi restaurant.
It opened Tuesday on the ground floor of the Lake Nona Veteran Affairs Medical Center.
Creative sushi options and South Pacific dish called poké are a fast-growing part of the restaurant world, with sushi bowls and burritos taking off. Poké is similar to ceviche, where fish is marinated in citrus juices.

We've been touting the Gengi Sushi counter at the new Winter Park Whole Foods, opening tomorrow, but BAM! New local quick-stop Foodoko just jumped up and and stole Gengi's sushi-burrito thunder.
Founded by chefs Steve Kuo (of Orlando's Yum Yum Asia Cafe) and Wei Hao Chen, Foodoko opened today in the Lake Nona Veteran Affairs Medical Center. Though it's inside the hospital, it's open to the public 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
